Origins
In early 2019, an unnamed bartender in a city that prefers not to be named declared the first Friday of the month a personal holiday. Within 90 days, 47 bars across 12 countries had adopted the designation. No press release was issued. No founding document was signed. The holiday simply appeared, as all important things do.
The Protocol
There is no governing body. There is no membership fee. There is no official website beyond this one, which itself is of disputed authority. The only rule is the date: first Friday, every month. Everything else โ venue, drink, dress code, company โ is left to the individual conscience.
Recognition
1st Fri-Day is not recognized by the United Nations. It is not recognized by any national government. It is not a legal public holiday in any jurisdiction. It is, however, recognized by approximately 3.2 million people who have decided that this is sufficient.
